User guide

Every tab and every setting, and the arithmetic behind the numbers the app shows you. If something here does not match what you see, the app is right and this page is out of date, so tell us.

Choosing your mode first

Onboarding asks whether you want vegan keto, intermittent fasting, or both. That answer changes the shape of the app rather than just a default.

Both gives you everything. Intermittent fasting hides the net carb budget, the recipes lose their place at the centre and calories take the main ring. Vegan keto removes the fasting timer, the schedule and the stage timeline entirely, and Home becomes the learning material and today's standing.

You can change it later in Me, Mode. Switching also cancels notifications belonging to the side you turned off, so nothing keeps arriving for a feature you can no longer see.

Home

The ring is the fast. While one is running it fills toward your planned end, and the caption says whether the number is time remaining or time elapsed. Tap the ring to switch between the two. Between fasts the ring counts toward the next scheduled start instead, and says so.

Under the ring, the start and end times of the running fast can each be tapped and edited, for the evening you forgot to press the button. Editing either one reschedules the notifications and redraws the Lock Screen.

The stage strip shows where the clock has reached. Stages are a general description of what tends to happen over a long fast for many people, not a measurement of your body, and the app does not claim otherwise.

The week bars show planned against recorded hours for the last 7 days. Tapping a day opens its plan, where a one off change to that day's window, or a rest day, can be set without touching your schedule.

Log

The big ring is your net carb budget for the day. Beside it are protein, fat and calories. Protein and calories both carry targets: the shortfall under each one is what you have left.

Food goes under breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. The green plus button floating above the tab bar jumps straight to adding food from wherever you are, since that is the thing you do most.

The arrows beside the date move between days, so a day you forgot can be filled in later.

Where the targets come from. Calories use your height, weight, age and activity to estimate maintenance, and then subtract a deficit paced to the goal and date you set in onboarding. Protein defaults to 1.2 g per kg of body weight unless you set your own figure. Net carbs default to 25 g. All 3 can be changed in Me, Goals and targets. They are standard published formulas applied to what you entered, which makes them a reasonable starting point and not a prescription.

Recipes

543 recipes, all vegan, all within a ketogenic carb range, with net carbs and calories per serving. Search by name or filter by meal, by no oil, by quick, or by high protein.

The meal plans are 5 day sets you can scroll through sideways. They are a suggestion, not a programme, and nothing is locked to them.

Strict days, in Me, let you mark particular weekdays or date ranges as stricter. On those days oily recipes are hidden and oily foods sort down the list. Nothing is ever blocked outright.

Progress

The weight chart draws straight lines between the weights you logged. It does not smooth or curve between points, because a curve would be inventing weights you never recorded.

The projection extends the line using your recent rate of change, not a flat assumption about how fast anyone loses weight. It is arithmetic on your own numbers and it will be wrong if the next few weeks do not look like the last few. Treat it as an illustration of the current trend rather than a forecast.

The weekly review reports the week: fasts completed against planned, days under budget, average fast length, and the weight change. It only shows the rows your mode uses, so a keto only user is not handed a fasting report.

Streaks count consecutive days. History and milestones are part of Pro.

Me

Profile holds your name, height, age and activity level. Goals and targets holds the goal, target weight and date, and the 3 daily targets. Mode switches which halves of the app you see. Fasting schedule picks the preset or a custom window, and shows the eating window as real clock times so you can see when you would actually eat.

Notifications is grouped by when each one fires, and lists only what your mode can deliver. Appearance is light, dark or system. Units switches metric and imperial.

Export data writes CSV files of your fasts, food and weights. Delete all data asks twice and then removes everything, on the device and, on the next sync, in iCloud.

Widgets and the Lock Screen

Add a widget the usual way: long press the Home Screen, tap the plus, find Ketocado. Small and medium home screen sizes and a Lock Screen size are available. While a fast runs, a Live Activity counts it down on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

Both are part of Pro.

A word about the health side

Everything in the app is hedged on purpose. Fasting stages are described as what typically happens for many people, because that is what the evidence supports and because bodies differ. The app does not tell you that you are in ketosis, because it cannot measure that. It does not claim any treatment or cure for anything.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of disordered eating, take medication where meal timing matters, or have a condition affected by diet, speak to a doctor before fasting. That is not boilerplate, it is the honest answer.
